Debbie Messemer

Debbie Messemer is a director of Allogene Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical stage biotechnology company pioneering the development of allogeneic CAR T therapies for cancer. Debbie also serves as a director of PayPal Holdings, Inc., a leading technology platform and digital payments company that enables digital and mobile payments on behalf of consumers and merchants worldwide, and of Carbon, Inc., the world’s leading digital manufacturing platform.

Until her retirement in 2018, Debbie served as the Managing Partner of KPMG’s Bay Area and Northwest region, responsible for leading over 3,000 team members in 10 offices across all functions, including audit, tax, and advisory. Debbie joined KPMG LLP, the U.S. member firm of KPMG International, in 1982 and was admitted into the partnership in 1995. She spent a large portion of her career as an audit engagement partner or senior account executive for KPMG clients in a variety of industry sectors.

Debbie is a co-founder of the San Francisco Chapter of Women Corporate Directors and a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. She has served extensively on non-profit and advisory boards including the Bay Area Council, the San Francisco Committee on Jobs, the California Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, the UC Berkeley Fisher Center Policy Advisory Board, San Francisco Ballet, Project Glimmer and The Posse Foundation. Debbie was honored as the Financial Woman of the Year by the Financial Women of San Francisco in 2016 and was named one of the Bay Area’s Most Influential Women in Business by the San Francisco Business Times.

Debbie received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. She personally enjoys art, cooking, yoga, tennis, and spending time her husband Jim and 2 black labs.
