Philadelphia Chapter Event
We are excited to announce that Ken Frazier, CEO and Chairman of Merck, will be our speaker on the topic of "Racism and Why Leaders Need to Walk the Talk”. Margie McGlynn, who secured Ken as our speaker, will be facilitating the interview.  Please join us on the zoom meeting on Monday, August 24th -  5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. All Chapters are welcomed!  There are two ways to register. 1) send an email and she will register you and send you the link information or 2) register via the WCD website. You will receive the zoom information upon registration.
Join us to hear Ken Frazier, CEO of Merck & Co., Inc., on what we can do as board directors to ensure our companies act boldly and decisively to confront systemic racism. Ken is one of four black CEOs among Fortune 500 Companies. He will share with us his story of growing up in North Philadelphia, graduating from Harvard Law School and working at Drinker law firm in Philadelphia, and then transitioning to Merck, where he served as General Counsel and rose to the position of CEO. Ken is a powerful leader on D&I within Merck. He will share his positive results in achieving diversity at the top of his organization, his frustrations with the pace of progress at lower levels, and his diagnoses of the barriers and his approach to address them. Ken is also a strong leader on racial bias outside of Merck. He made headlines in 2017 when he boldly resigned from the president’s American Manufacturing Council in protest of Trump’s placating response to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. Ken also serves on the board of directors at Exxon Corporation and Weill Cornell Medicine. He will give us his perspectives both as a CEO and board director on how we as directors can best influence and support efforts to combat racial bias in corporations.
