How I Secured My First Board

 

While there is not a single path to board service there are several steps you can take to become more successful in your pursuit of your first board.

Be present at our 7th annual signature event and network with WCD members as they share their journey onto recent board assignments. Daniela O'Leary

Board Director

Daniela O’Leary is a board director, Discover Bank and BMP Financial Group. Passionate about financial inclusion and economic development with a track-record of getting results while creating strong, resilient teams.

C-suite leader at BMO (Bank of Montreal) over 25 years across all three lines of defense: Chief Auditor; Chief Operating Officer; Global Head of Communications and Investor Relations; P&L, strategy, product, large-technology, marketing and risk/audit functions. Direct report to the Global and subsidiary CEOs and Independent Board Directors at BMO Financial Group.

Expertise in regulatory and media relations, redesigning business practices, leading significant technology transformation, acquisition integration, and improving profitability within and across different divisions. Founding Chair of BMO’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Culture. Led record-braking employee giving campaigns. Advocate of non-profit institutions that promote the arts, science and learning: Museum of Science & Industry Trustee; Ravinia Festival Trustee, Executive Committee and Chair of Development Committee.

 

 

 

Elizabeth Roper

Partner, Baker McKenzie

Elizabeth Roper is a partner in Baker McKenzie’s North America Litigation and Global Dispute Resolution Practice. She is based in New York.

Prior to joining the firm, Liz served in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office as Bureau Chief of the Cybercrime and Identity Theft Bureau (CITB). In this role, Liz directed the investigation and prosecution of all types of cybercrime impacting Manhattan, including sophisticated cyber-enabled financial crime such as identity theft, payment card fraud, and money laundering: network intrusions, hacking, ransomware, and “middleman” attacks; intellectual property theft; “dark web” trafficking of contraband; and the theft and illicit use of cryptocurrencies.


 

 

 

Kim Roy

Board Director

Kim Roy has been a director at Chico’s FAS since February 2019, Kim chairs the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance and Merchant committees and is a member of it’s Audit committee. Ms. Roy has over 30 years’ experience in the retail industry. She has developed, grown and led several multibillion-dollar brand portfolios particularly in women’s fashion apparel and accessories and has significant strategic branding, merchandising, marketing and operating expertise. Previously Ms. Roy held several senior leadership positions at Ralph Lauren Corporation. As Group President, North America Kim led Polo, Lauren and Chaps brands for men, women, children, and home from 2014-2016. Prior to that, Ms. Roy was Group President Lauren brands, leading the company’s portfolio of women’s brands from 2008-2014. Ms. Roy joined Ralph Lauren in 2003 to launch its first owned women’s brand, Lauren and was Lauren President for five years.

Prior to her years at Ralph Lauren, Ms. Roy was President of Ann Taylor, Group President Liz Claiborne, Inc. and SVP General Merchandise Manager at Associated Merchandising Corporation. Ms. Roy began her career at Abraham and Straus.

Ms. Roy was a member of the board of directors at Weight Watcher’s International, Inc. (now WWW International, Inc.) and served on its audit committee. She has been a trustee for Skidmore College, her alma mater, since 2009 and is currently on its Executive committee, co-chairs its Compensation committee and is a member of its Communications Marketing committee. Ms. Roy is also a director for Catholic Guardian Services, serves on its Strategic Planning, Investment, and Finance committees.
