Ed Ludwig serves as Lead Independent Director for the Board of Directors of Boston Scientific. He serves as Director of CVS, and Chairs CVS Board Finance Committee.

Additionally, Ed serves as Chairman of the Board of POCARED, Ltd., a private clinical diagnostics firm headquartered in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Ed is former Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), a global medical technology company headquartered in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Ed joined BD in 1979. He served as CFO from 1995 to 1999. Named President in May 1999 and Chief Executive Officer in January 2000, Ed was elected Chairman in February 2002. He served as Chief Executive Officer through September 2011 and Chairman through June 2012.

Prior to joining BD, Ed served as a senior auditor with Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC), where he earned a CPA certificate, and as a financial and strategic analyst at Kidde, Inc.

Ed served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the College of the Holy Cross from 2005 to 2013, and the Columbia Business School Board of Overseers from 2010 to 2015. He also served as a Trustee of the Hackensack University Medical Center Network Board of Trustees.

Ed is a Founding Board Member of The Center for Higher Ambition Leadership (CHL). CHL is an organization of Leaders helping Leaders build companies that achieve sustained high performance by earning the respect, trust, and commitment of their people, customers, communities, and investors.

Ed served as Director (2003-2018) and Lead Independent Director (2013-2018) of the Aetna Insurance Company. Until 2017, Ed served as Chair of the Finance, Innovation & Technology Committee of Xylem, Inc., a leading global water technology provider that launched in 2011 from the spinoff of the water-related businesses of ITT Corporation. He is a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of AdvaMed, the world’s largest medical technology association, and a past Chair of the Health Advisory Board for the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Ed graduated from The College of the Holy Cross with a BA in Economics and Accounting and received his MBA in Finance from Columbia University.
