IN THE GAME of dodgeball, the objective
is to avoid being hit by a ball hurled by
an opponent—but at some point, the ball
inevitably strikes the mark. Hackers play a
far more dangerous version of this game,
launching a fusillade of cyber attacks
daily. The company on whose board you
sit will manage to skirt many attacks but
some will succeed.
Nearly every midsized company and
large enterprise has been hacked at
least once, with no industry spared. Accordingly,
board directors must give as
much of their attention to what happens
after a cyber attack as they do to all of
the security measures designed to ward
off an incursion.
