Special Purpose Acquisition Companies, more commonly referred to as SPACS, have quickly become an alternative path for companies to go public. This year, with billions of dollars in capital, a record of over 400 SPAC IPO’s have launched in the marketplace.
They’re also creating a different model for corporate governance. Like traditional practices, SPACS are required to form boards of directors. Unlike traditional practices, the roles, responsibilities and tenure for directors are less structured. As SPACs continue to gain momentum and attention, so will the makeup of their boards.
